Suffolk County Legislative District 4

The 4th Legislative District is located in the central-eastern portion of Suffolk County encompassing the central section of Brookhaven Town. The district includes: 

  • The Brookhaven Town portion of Ronkonkoma

  • Centereach

  • Coram

  • Farmingville

  • Holbrook

  • Holtsville

  • Lake Grove

  • Lake Ronkonkoma

  • Medford

  • Port Jefferson Station

  • Selden

It consists of fifty-three (53) election districts with approximately 80,000 residents and 51,373 registered voters.

Caracappa was elected in a special election held in November 2020 to fill the seat following the death of Legislator Thomas Muratore on October 2020.

On December 8, 2020, prior to being sworn into office, Caracappa was arrested at his home following a domestic dispute with his wife. He was arraigned on a felony criminal contempt charge and a misdemeanor charge of criminal obstruction of breathing. The felony complaint alleges that Caracappa grabbed his wife, pushed her against a wall, squeezed her neck and threatened: “if you think you are getting 50% and give it to a stupid (expletive) I will kill you first.”  

The matter is pending.

Caracappa’s mother Rose served as the District 4 Legislator until her death in 1995.  She reached the rank of presiding officer. Caracappa’s brother Joe filled the vacancy created by his mother’s death and served as the District 4 Legislator until he was term limited in 2007. Joe Caracappa also rose to the rank of presiding officer.

About Nick

Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa is a lifelong resident of Selden. He is the proud father of five children - Joseph, William, Rosine, Julianna and Gloria.

As County Legislator for the Fourth District, Nick is honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to continue the hard work and vision that two preceding Suffolk County Legislators, the late Tom Muratore and his mother, the late Rose Caracappa had for this great community where he was born and raised.

Nick serves as a member on the Legislature’s Environment, Parks and Agriculture Committee, Veterans & Consumer Affairs Committee and Public Works, Transportation and Energy Committee.

Nick’s employment and volunteer history demonstrates his total commitment to family, community and the hard working people he so proudly represents. 

His extensive professional experience includes:

  • Former Utility Workers’ Union of America National Executive Board Member.

  • Former Middle Country Central School District Trustee - 7 years.
