About James

Jim was born and raised in the tri-hamlet area. As the eldest son of an immigrant father and a first-generation mother, he is most proud of his family’s blue-collar immigrant roots.

A graduate of William Floyd High School in 1984 and from SUNY Maritime College in 1988, Jim works as the Secretary/Treasurer of Local 342, Long Island Public Service Employees; dedicated his career to improving the working conditions of public employees.

Jim and his wife Mary decided to raise their children, Sarah and Joseph, in the community they grew up in. Jim’s inspiration to use his time and talents to serve the hamlet was instilled in him by his mother, Betty Mazzarella, and her passionate dedication to community service.

Jim has served on the board of the Mastics, Moriches, Shirley Community Library as a Trustee and Board President for a decade. He is a long-time member of the Rotary Club of the Mastics and Shirley and has been honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.

Jim is a member and past President of the Crystal Beach Property Association since 1996. His greatest joy is spending time with family and friends and boating on Moriches Bay and the surrounding local beaches.
