Suffolk County Legislative District 12

The 12th Suffolk County Legislative District (LD) is located in the western-central portion of Suffolk County encompassing the southern section of the Town of Smithtown, and western Brookhaven. The district includes Smithtown, Nesconset, Hauppauge, the Village of the Branch, Lake Grove and parts of St. James, Commack, Lake Ronkonkoma and Centereach. The district is bounded roughly by Route 25 to the North, Commack Road to the West, Townline Road to the South, and Oxhead Road to the East with Veteran's Memorial Highway running through the heart of the district northwest to southeast. 

It consists of 64 election districts (EDs) with 49,617 registered voters and approximately 24,000 residential homes. The 12th LD has 50 EDs in Smithtown, 13 EDs in Brookhaven.

The LD is generally upper middle class with 70% of incomes over $45,000. In general the district is young with 88% of registered voters under 65 years old. Residents of the 12th LD are well educated with 90% of the adult population finishing high school and 33% with bachelor's degrees.

About Leslie

Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy of Nesconset is a lifelong resident of Long Island, raised in Commack.  As the daughter of a Marine, she was inspired to dedicate her life to serving her community. She has done this by working in public service, in healthcare and in the private sector.
Leslie worked for over 13 years, first as a legislative aide to Suffolk County Legislator Donald Blydenburgh and as an aide to Suffolk County Legislator John Kennedy before becoming a Suffolk County Legislator in 2015.  A dedicated public servant, Legislator Kennedy is a constant presence throughout the Towns of Smithtown & Brookhaven. She is always working to protect the quality of life of all of her constituency.
While in office, Legislator Kennedy has focused on protecting taxpayers, preserving the Long Island environment and ensuring the safety of the constituents of her community.
Prior to her service in government, she worked in numerous hospitals and private service as an RN for 30 years.  She has also worked in the private sector managing a business, and at a rehabilitation facility working with individuals who have substance abuse issues.
During her tenure as Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy has been the recipient of several awards for her work in the community. Leslie was recognized by the Suffolk County Police Hispanic Society for her work with law enforcement. . . .  
Legislator Kennedy and her husband John [Suffolk County Comptroller and former District 12 Legislator] have four adult children; John, Kristen, Brian and Gillian.
